South Hams District Council, the statutory Harbour Authority for the Salcombe Harbour-Kingsbridge Estuary, is seeking applications from members of the public to serve on its Harbour Board.

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK the municipal port of Salcombe is a traditional leisure and fishing port hosting internationally recognised sailing regattas and exporting exceptional quality shellfish around the world. The Harbour has a rich and diverse natural and historic heritage and is recognised as a National Landscape, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and a Local Nature Reserve.

If you have the commitment, passion and enthusiasm to help provide strategic oversight, good governance and stewardship to support harbour safety, financial and environmental sustainability, and the long-term interests of harbour users and the local community, please contact us for more information. Applicants should have relevant experience at a senior or professional level and an interest in the harbour. Experience in areas such as maritime activities, governance, finance, environmental management, or public service would be beneficial, though maritime experience is not essential.

The Harbour Board comprises of four elected councillors and six co-opted independent members of the public and meets six times a year during working hours - normally on a Monday afternoon. Although the post is not paid, reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed. Board appointments ordinarily last for three years but may be extended by mutual agreement.

To apply for the position, or for an informal discussion, please contact the Harbour Master by phone on 01548 843791, or email salcombe.harbour@swdevon.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is Friday 15th May 2026, with interviews taking place on Tuesday 26th May 2026.
